— Through the generosity of the family of Barbara Mortensen, the Gravette Kiwanis Club will be awarding one of the Gravette lady’s prize-winning quilts on Gravette Day this year.

Mortensen, whose quilting expertise has been well known throughout the area, has been donating her handmade quilts to the Gravette Kiwanis group as fundraising projects for more than 15 years. She died several weeks ago.

“Her family generously donated one of Mortensen’s prize-winning quilts to be raffled off this year in her memory,” said Lavon Stark, reporting for the club.

The quilt is now on display at the Bank of Gravett and is pictured with Kiwanian Rickie Stark.

The quilt, “Rhythmic Fans,” was made by Mortensen in 1995 and won honors at the BentonCounty Fair, the Quilt Show at Grove and at the Arkla State Fair. Hand-pieced and machine quilted, its color scheme is reds, black and gray. Later this month it will be on display at theArvest Bank in Gravette. It will be awarded by the club during the Kiwanis Club annual pancake breakfast Saturday, Aug. 13.

Donation tickets are now on sale by Kiwanis members with the hope that many persons will participate to add to this generous lady’s gifts to the club which has donated thousands of dollars to projects benefiting Gravette.
