Candidates to file for school board election by Friday

— Voters in Gravette School District 20 will elect two directors to serve five-year terms. Filing deadline is this Friday, July 22, at the office of the County Clerk in Bentonville.

Jim Singleton, who is completing his first fiveyear term on the board, has filed for re-election to the No. 5 position on the board.

Marion Harris, who holds the No. 6 position on the board, has indicated he will not be a candidate for re-election. He is completing his third five-year term on the board.

Gentry School Board

In Gentry, school board members Jim Barnes, Coye Cripps, Dani Cypert, Gary Dunlap and David Williamson have stated they are filing to be on the ballot for re-election in September. Board members Ted Dorn and Scott McCollum have stated they will not be seeking re-election in the fall.

Kent Swinney and Barry Williamson have alreadyfiled petitions to be on the ballot for Position 4 and the at large Position 7, respectively. Others are in the process of obtaining signatures and are expected to file before the deadline.

Decatur School Board

As of Tuesday morning, no petitions had been filed for the two open positions on Decatur's School Board. Board Member Kevin Smith said he is collecting signatures and intends to file a petition.

Persons interested in filing for a position must be a qualified voter, a resident of the district (and zone) and file a petition containing signatures of at least 20 registered voters, file an affidavit of eligibility and file a political practices pledge. These must be completed and submitted by noon, Friday, July 22.

The annual school election is Tuesday, Sept. 13.
