Stella Arnold

Stella Bell Arnold, 88, of Elm Springs, died July 15, 2011, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale.

She was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Fallsville to Joseph Harrison Boen and Haley Eastep Boen. She was a homemaker, worked as a nurse aide for several years and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur B. Horn in 1974, James Mitchell in 1989, and Robert Arnold; one son who died at birth; three brothers, Vester Boen, Orville Boen and John Boen; three sisters, Eva Doss, Zettie Turner and Naomi "Edith" Waits; one granddaughter, Barbara Venneberg.

Survivors include, three daughters, Josie Venneberg of Bentonville, Mary Mc-Millan of Springtown and Joyce Goates and husband Guerin of Elm Springs; one brother Ervin Boen and wife Ernestine of Springdale; five grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was July 19 at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs, with Johnny Harp officiating. Burial followed at Elm Springs Cemetery. Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Kurt Burns

Kurt Dorn Burns, 83, died July 24, 2011,at his home in Siloam Springs.

He was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Izard County to Tom Hansen and Jewel Virginia Newsom Burns. He married Sylvia Ellen Lowe in Joplin, Mo., on June 5, 1951. He was a life-long resident of Arkansas and practiced dentistry for 50 years in Siloam Springs. He graduated from Gentry High School in 1945, and in 1949 from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in pre-dental. He studied dental surgery and graduated from Washington University Dental School in St. Louis, Mo., in 1953. He started his dental practice in Siloam Springs and, in November of 1953, was called up from the Naval Reserve into active duty. He served as a lieutenant stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif., and as a a fleet dentist in Point Barrow, Alaska. He returned to Siloam Springs in 1955 and resumed his dental practice until his retirement in 2004. He was a lifetime member of the Arkansas Dental Association and served on its executive council from 1971-76. He was a member of the University of Arkansas Alumni Association and an avid Razorback fan. A golfer, he was a member of the United States Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia of the home; daughter and son-in-law Alan and Cindy Knox of Bella Vista; daughter and son-in-law George and Sandra Mayo of Neosho, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law Barry and Renee’ Burns of Siloam Springs; and daughter and son-in-law Larry and Lindy Taylor of Gentry; 12 grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 29, at Grace Episcopal Church, Siloam Springs, with Stanley McKinnon officiating. Burial will follow at Gentry Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Rosa Mable Carver

Rosa Mable Carver, 90, of Springdale, died July 23, 2011, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

She was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Springdale to George and Grace Conn Robbins. She loved to cook, can and have friends and family over to eat dinner at her house. She worked at Steele Canning Company, Neals Cafe and did house cleaning.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Carver, whom she married in 1939; five brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by a son, Dale Carver and wife Mary of Springdale; two daughters, Dolly Carver Vannoy and husband Larry, and Dorothy Carver Smith, all of Springdale; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with Carl Palmer officiating. Burial will be at Spring Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Viola (Long) Bardales

Viola Lee (Long) Bardales, 87, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Gravette, died July 18, 2011, in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born April 10, 1924, in Greenfield, Mo., the daughter of Lenny and Mable Drummond-Aleshire. She cooked at the Gravette camp meeting for many years and did babysitting in Gravette. She was active in TOPS and a member of the Gravette Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ivan Long; her parents; sister, Iva Howard; grandson, Billy; granddaughter, Ryan; and daughter-in-law, Belvia.

She is survived by her husband, Rene, of the home; two daughters, Linda Colvin and husband Gary of Gravette, Rebecca Earle and husband Ed of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; four sons, Charles Long of Clovis, Calif., Jim Long and wife Susie of Florence, Ariz., Joe Long of Ozark, Mo., and Bill Long and wife Linda of Raton, N.M.; two stepdaughters, Ruth Stephenson and husband Gary of Kansas City, Mo., Debora Kirk of St. Joseph, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at Gravette Holiness Church on July 22, 2011, with Lonnie Witt and Ray Crooks officiating. Burial followed at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Gravette.

Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory of Bella Vista.
