Word was received this week of the death of former resident Belle Puryear. Belle has spent the last few years near her daughter in Wichita, Kan. Sympathy is extended to her family.

Let’s hope the rain has let up a little and will give us a chance to get in our gardens and fields. Between Sunday and Wednesday I received 11 inches at my house.

Those having lunch with Mr. and Mrs. Lofty Carrier on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Ward Carrier, Maxine Holloway and myself.

Gary and Georganna Cowick from Grand Prairie, Texas, have been visiting relatives in the area over the weekend. They visited with Novella Carlton on Friday evening.

Some people are starting to cut hay.

Robert Hamilton had foot surgery on Wednesday. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

Marlo Hamilton was home for the weekend and, since Tuesday is her birthday, those helping her celebrate with lunch on Sunday were Sam and Darla Pharr and two children from Colcord, Okla., Dean Fletcher, Amanda Hamilton and children and her parents Robert and Geneva Hamilton. After lunch the children enjoyed an hour playing in the creek.

In 1752, sometime early in the month of June, Ben Franklin, with the help of his son William, a silk kite and a key, performed an experiment during a thunderstorm proving that lightning is electrical.
