John E. Brown Jr.

John E. Brown Jr., 89, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died June 3, 2011.

He was born Aug. 1, 1921.

He graduated from John Brown University in 1942.He trained as a naval pilot and later served aboard a ship with the Pacific Fleet during WorldWar II. He returned to JBU after the war and was appointed JBU’s vice president by John Brown Sr. in 1946.

He succeeded his father as president of JBU in 1948. He was given the honorary title of chancellor in 1987. He was active in Rotary and was named Pioneer Citizen of the Year in 1991 by the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce.

He married Louise Randolph on May 21, 2006. He was married to Caroline Trahin Brown from Nov. 23, 1941, until she died on Jan. 28, 2005.

He is survived by his wife of the home; five children, Karen Wilt, John Brown III and wife Stephania, Melinda Pollock, Julie Lolley and husband Mikel, Laurie Wilkinson and husbandBurt; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. June 10, 2011, at Cathedral of the Ozarks at John Brown University with Dr. David Bush officiating.

Vestor Leon Frazier

Vestor Leon Frazier, 75, of Watts, Okla., died June 3, 2011, at Regency Health in Fayetteville, Ark.

He was born Oct. 21, 1935, in Westville, Okla., to Riley and Mettie Dozier Frazier.

He married Kathrryn Taylor Frazier on Sept. 16, 1955.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of the home; his children, Leonard Frazier of Watts, Tom Frazier of West Siloam Springs, Okla., Pat Ray and husband Maurice of Watts, Paula Peters and husband John of Kansas, Okla .,and Sandra Ketcher and husband Curtis of Watts; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cletus Frazier and wife Hazel and Chester Frazier and wife Wilhelmina, all of Fayetteville; and a sister, Leila Ratliff and husband Ronnie of Tontitown, Ark.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on June 8, 2011, at Bell Cemetery in Watts with Rick Pathkiller officiating.

Wayne Edward Gamble

Wayne Edward Gamble, 61, of Cookson, Okla., died June 2, 2011.

He was born Oct. 26, 1949, in Bentonville, Ark., to Lula Branstuder and Carl Gamble.

He spent his youth in Gravette and Siloam Springs, Ark. He attended Gravette Elementary School and Siloam Springs High School.

Prior to his retirement, he was a long-haul truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a son, Doug Gamble of Colcord, Okla.; and two sisters, Carleen Weisz of Tulsa, Okla. and Carol Gamble of Fayetteville, Ark.

Brian Earnest McGuire

Brian Earnest McGuire, 52, of Watts, Okla., died June 6, 2011, at his home.

He was born Oct. 27, 1958, in Siloam Springs, Ark., to Ralph and Darrellene Adams McGuire.

He was a farm supervisor for Benton County Food.

He married Linda Long on Oct. 27, 1999, in Bentonville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife of the home; his mother of Watts; two daughters, Disty Welch of Kissee Mills, Mo., and Amanda Montes and husband Julio Montes of Siloam Springs; a son, Michael Weeks of Kissee Mills; a sister, Diann Phipps of Westville, Okla.; and 10 grandchildren.

A private funeral service was held with Bill Holcomb officiating.

Ruby Faye Parker 1914-2011

Ruby Faye (Glenn) Parker, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with the Lord on June 1st, 2011.

She was born May 14, 1914, on her grandfather’s farm east of

Santo, Texas, to Jesse Evans and Mary Obedience (Nolen) Glenn.

As a young man, her father worked for the Texas and Pacifi c Railroad, moving the family to West Texas towns that included Monahans,Van Horn, Sand Hills and Loraine. Her mother was a talented seamstress and musician.

The family moved to Gentry, Arkansas in 1918 when she was four but returned to Texas, living briefly in Weatherford before moving back to her grandfather and former Texas Ranger J.R. Glenn’s farm near Santo. She completed six years of elementary school in Santo. Her family attended the First Baptist Church, and her mother was the pianist. The family returned to Gentry in 1927. She was promoted a grade level and graduated from Gentry High School in 1932.

She married Henry Howard Parker on June 17, 1934. After several years in Gentry, they moved briefly to Watts, Oklahoma, then Siloam Springs Arkansas returning to Gentry in 1945. Mr. Parker worked 49 years as a telegrapher and station agent for the Kansas City Southern Railroad and died in 2003. Ruby Faye continued to live in the home they had shared for over 60 years.

Ruby Faye was active in community activities, enjoyed photography, played the piano, was a member of numerous civic groups, loved to work in the flower garden, and was proud of her Texas roots. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gentry and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked for many years as City Clerk for the City of Gentry and was mayor of the city for a short time. She loved to write human interest stories and provided many stories while working for the local paper, The Journal Advance. She wrote historical articles for several publications of the Gentry Chamber of Commerce and wrote the history of her family for Santo: The Hub, a book published in 1980 about the people of Santo, Texas. She was an avid reader and letter writer, always taking an interest in what her friends and family were doing. In her later years she gave special attention to her cats, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She loved and supported her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Eula Mae (Glenn) Scott of Austin, Texas, brother Maurice Edmund Glenn of Fort Worth, Texas, and son David Van Parker of Fort Worth, Texas. She is survived by her son Rick Parker and wife Teresa of Gentry;

granddaughter, Rhiannon Parker of Gentry; grandson David Parker and wife Ashley of Plano, Texas; great grandsons Blake and Reid Parker of

Plano and niece and nephew Glenn Scott and family and NolenScott and family of Austin, Texas.

Graveside services will be conducted by Wassons Funeral Home on June 3rd, 2011 at 10:00 in the Gentry Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels program of Gentry, Arkansas.
