Pool in Gravette may open this Saturday

— Gravette’s municipal swimming pool may open this Saturday, June 11, if a few glitches can be corrected and if the state health department gives the okay.

Electrical service problems discovered early last week caused postponement of the opening which had been scheduled last Friday.

Empire District Electric Company has corrected the problems, according to Mayor Byron Warren. However, when the power to the pool water circulating pumps was able to be turned on, a problem was discovered. That problem is being addressed at this time.

The pool is scheduled to be checked by a representative of the health department this Fri-day, according to Allyson Ransom, communications director for the city. If that approval is received, the pool is tentatively scheduled to open Saturday.

The free day of swimming for all students in the Gravette school system will be held that day or on the pool’s opening date, Ransom said. Students should bring their report cards for verification.

Those who booked pool parties are asked to contact city hall, 787-5757, ext. 4, to make arrangements to reschedule the events.

City officials emphasize that this Saturday is a tentative opening date. A firm date was not known at press time for the Eagle Observer.

“We’re sorry and apologize for the delay since the pool has been completely refurbished. We emphasize that having the pool safe and meeting all health department requirements is our primary aim,” said Mayor Byron Warren.
