GENTRY — The July 4th Freedom Festival in Gentry is only a few weeks away and plans are under way to make this year’s event one of the best.
On the schedule for Monday, July 4, are the following events and activities:
◊Adult coed softballtournaments begin in the morning and continue through the day. Games will be played at Gentry City Park and at McKee fields. To enter a team or for more information, contact Jodye Pool at 790-8988.
◊Antique tractors will be displayed by Tired Iron of the Ozarks, with tractor driving and hay-rack rides all day in the city park.
◊ Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will have its fish aquarium on display throughout the day.
◊Annual car show will begin at 9 a.m., with judging at 1 p.m. and trophies at the end of the day. For more information, contact Tammie Runyan at 238-4979.
◊Wrestling will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in the park.
◊Sky divers from Skydive Skyranch in Siloam Springs will drop into the park from above at about noon, 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
◊Little Miss and Mister Gentry pageants will take place at 6 p.m. on the stage in the park. Contestants must be ages 3 through 5 and live in the Gentry School District. For more information or to enter a child, contact Michelle Finnell at 957-4594.
◊ Music on the stage throughout much of the afternoon and into the evening hours. Kaylin Cripps will perform from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Meagan White will perform from 7 to 8 p.m. and Earl’s Garage will perform from 8:15 to about 9:30 p.m.
◊Fireworks will again be set off by the Gentry Fire Department about 9:30 p.m., with the display being one of the best in the area.
