“If anyone thirsts….”

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37,38 (Read 37-39)

Is something missing in your life, leaving you unfulfilled, unsatisfied and empty? Are you thirsty for that water which satisfies the deepest need of your soul? Jesus has the answer and calls you to come to Him for spiritual drink which satisfies that deepest longing and thirsting of your souls.

Jesus says, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” In the Old Testament, He called out through the prophet Isaiah: “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; and you who have no money, Come, buy and eat.

Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you-the sure mercies of David…” (Isa. 55:1ff.; cf.

12:1ff. John 4:1ff.).

What is Jesus saying when He calls upon us to come to Him and drink? What is that life-giving water He offers and gives to those who come to Him? Jesus is calling upon all to repent of their sinful and rebellious ways and to return to Him for mercy, forgiveness and everlasting salvation. He offers to satisfy our souls with pardon and peace - to bring us back into fellowship with God our Maker, and He promises that those who repent and turn to Him for mercy will have, flowing out of their hearts, rivers of living water. Those who repent and are baptized in Jesus’ name receive remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit who then lives and dwells in them, assuring them of God’s love and forgiveness and keeping them in the faith (cf. Acts 2:38-39). He teaches us from His Word and moves us to share the water of life with those around us.

So why do we spend our lives pursuing that which does not satisfy when we could come to Jesus for living water which will truly satisfy our souls!

O merciful Lord Jesus, thank You for paying the just penalty for my sin and offering to me pardon and peace, forgiveness and life eternal. Grant me Your Holy Spirit and graciously keep me always holding fast to You unto life everlasting Amen.
