Police make arrests, work accident

— Gentry Police arrested Salvador Mendez, 43, of Siloam Springs, for driving while under the influence of alcohol on June 2 when officer Jack Sanders noticed the pickup Mendez was driving swerving within its lane on Main Street and the license plates did not match the pickup truck.

According to police reports, Mendez allegedly spoke with slurred speech, had bloodshot and watery eyes and the odor of alcohol. During the course of the investigation, it was also learned that Mendez was already suspended for DWI.

He was charged with a fourth-offense DWI (felony), driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance and improper use of vehicle registration.

According to police reports, Mendez’ blood-alcohol content was measured at .159, nearly twice the legal limit. Mendez, according to reports, was transported to the Benton County Jail, where he was being held yet Monday, with bond set at $10,000.

Domestic violence arrests

A May 20 domestic violence incident at the Brooklyn Apartments in Gentry led to two arrests, one for a stabbing and the other for domestic assault and false imprisonment.

Ntxhee Her and Bradley Ethridge were both arrested related to the incident which happened at their apartment on May 20.

Ethridge went to the Gentry Fire Department as a result of wounds he allegedly received when Her was trying to get away from him and allegedly used a small kitchen knife or other object.

Two-vehicle accident

Two women were transported to the Siloam Springs Hospital following an accident at the corner of Arkansas Highway 12 and Main Street on Saturday afternoon.

According to police reports, Kimberly Foreman of Gentry failed to yield in her Volkswagen Passat when she was turning from Main Street onto Arkansas Highway 12 (south). Her vehicle was struck by a westbound 1998 Kia, driven by Nicole Meins of Gentry. Air bags were deployed on both vehicles, and both drivers were transported by Siloam Springs Ambulance to the hospital.

Foreman was cited for failure to yield and Meins, for failure to show proof of insurance. Both vehicles were disabled in the crash.
