Woman awakens to burglar in her home

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

— Decatur is usually a trusting and safe community where doors often go unlocked, but that calm was broken last week when a woman living in the Grant Springs subdivision woke up in the middle of the night to the sight of a strange man standing in the hallway outside her bedroom.

The man had entered the house on Cedarbrook Court through an open garage door. He fled when he realized the woman had seen him but took two game consoles, valued at $650, with him.

Officers from the Decatur,Gentry and Gravette Police Departments, and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, searched the area for several hours and gathered evidence in the home. Police also found a motorcycle that had been taken from the garage and abandoned in a nearby field.

So far, there is a person of interest in the case but no arrests have been made, according to Decatur Police Chief Terry Luker.

Luker is urging residents to keep their homes locked. If anyone has any information about the case or has seen or heard of any suspicious activity, they are asked to call the Decatur Police Department at 752-3911.
