Summer reading planned at Decatur's city library

— “One World, Many Stories” will be the theme of the summer reading program at the Iva Jane Peek Library in Decatur this year, according to new librarian Karen Jones.

The program, for children 6 to 11, will help children explore cultures around the world and emphasizes a love of books. It will include activities and crafts, from Mexican bandero painting for older students to dream catchers for the younger kids.

The program will begin on July 5 and continue through July 28. Children, 6 through 8, will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, and children, 9 though 11, will meet on Thursdays.

There is no cost to participate in the summer reading program but parents are required to pre-register their children. Registration forms are available at the Iva Jane Peek Library, open from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and also from 10:30 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
