Gravette board votes to buy land

— The Gravette School Board, at its meeting last week, approved the purchase of a strip of land used as a road between the middle and upper elementary schools.

The land, owned by John Rambadt, had apparently been overlooked during land transactions several years ago. The purchase price was $2,500.

The board, following an executive session, accepted the resignation of Jennifer Ford, GHS speech/ journalism teacher. She has been on the faculty of Gravette school for 16 years. Her retirement will become effective at the end of the current school year.

Several improvement projects were approved, including roof repair of the annex building which once housed the highschool music and cafeteria facilities, upgrading the HVAC controls in the upper and middle schools in an energy-saving move and replacing a smaller fiber-optic line to the new high school to increase capacity needed now and in the future. Stimulus funds will pay for the projects.

The board also approved a bid of $15,939 for the purchase of new football uniforms, an action that occurs at five-year cycles.
