JGT Club holds monthly meeting

— The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club was held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center with five members and two guests, Susan Sturdy and Charlie Griffin, present.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Eda Montag led the singing of “This Land is Your Land” and Vice-President Susan Holland read the devotion, “The End of Worry.”

Secretary Betty Howardread the minutes of the January meeting and treasurer Mary Griffin read the financial report. Five persons answered roll call: Mary - two jokes, Susan - quotes from famous persons, Betty - joke about a couple debating the purchase of a new vehicle, Jeanne and Eda.

Susan reviewed the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children recycled card program. Eda collected some paperback books for hospitalized vets at the Fayetteville VA Hospital and encouraged members to continue collecting books and to send cards to vets. She also reported on the animal shelter heatingproject and said blankets and pet food are ongoing needs.

Betty gave the program from “Chicken Soup for the Dog and Cat Lovers’ Soul.” She read two stories, “A Horse and His Boy” and “More Than Medicine.”

The meeting was adjourned and everyone enjoyed a lunch of fried chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans with bacon, caramel brownies, cherry Jell-O and raisin pie.

The next meeting will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. Jeanne Hubbard will give the program.
