MAYSVILLE - Members of the Maysville E. H. Club met at the home of Melinda Crawley Feb. 24 for a delicious lunch followed by the regular scheduled meeting. The meeting was called to order by President Orpha Wardlaw. Melinda led the group in singing, “Won’t You Come Home, Bill Bailey,” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Jewel Lukens gave a devotional thought about being careful what you say. We should not speak of others’ faults until we have none of our own!

Melinda Crawley gave a very interesting lesson on medicinal herbs. Herbs are beneficial for many things like sprains, bruises, congestion, sleep aids and blood thinners but she advised one to talk to your pharmacistfirst as they can sometimes affect medicine you are taking.

She demonstrated a cultural art which was simple to make, using herbs and flower petals in a decorative jar, along with some Christmas lights. When the lights warm the leaves, they create a pleasant aroma.

An eye-opener given by Bert Ballmann was, when clipping recipes out, put them in an envelope until after you have made each one, then if you like it, copy it to your cookbook and if not, throw it away.

The secretary called the roll and 12 members answered with their favorite wintertime soup. The minutes were read and treasurer’s report given. Bert Ballmann gave an update on Senior Day and also asked the members to work at Care and Share if theycould. Sylvia Tucker reported that no one had used the building this past month and about a water leak that had been repaired.

Jewel Lukens resigned as reporter and from her duties of scheduling reunions and other events using the building. Gwen Singleton will take over as reporter, and Melinda Crawley will be helping Sylvia with the calendar schedule. Melinda’s phone number is 291-0011 and Sylvia’s is 291-4542. If anyone wants to use the building they should call one of them.

Lessons for future meetings were passed out to those who wanted them. We were reminded of the upcoming spring fundraiser, date undetermined, Curtain Call March 18, Spring Council April 29 and two new county projects which are Walk Across America and making Snack Packs. The meeting was closed with the benediction.
