GHS students place at FBLA Conference

15 Gravette students qualified for state competitions to be held in April

— On Feb. 14, twenty-two Gravette High School FBLA students traveled to Ft. Smith for the Spring Leadership Conference.

Competitions in over 60 business-related areas were conducted with 15 students qualifying for state competitions in April.

Cody Bullock, Cody Montee and Trey Tyner, with the assistance of TJ Chevallier, placed First in Digital Video Production. Amy Riles placed First in Personal Finance. Seth Rutherford placed First in Accounting II.

Third place in Business Communication went to Kaitlynn Britton and Third place in Banking and Financial Systems to Jessica Price and Christina Lovell. Carson Alsup placed Fourth in Introduction toBusiness Communications, Noah Smith placed Fourth in Public Speaking I and Sayer Smith placed Fourth in Public Speaking II. Jenna Brown placed Fifth in Future Business Leader.

Rounding out the Top Ten list in the district were Taylor Fournier with Eighth in Accounting I, Jacquelynn Janes and Whitney DeWitt with Tenth in Business Ethics, Ricky Wolfinbarger with Seventh in Economics, Hailey House with Tenth in Job Interview and Samantha VanOtterloo with Eighth in Sports Management.

District officer elections were held during the conference where Taylor Fournier was elected to District VII Treasurer. His duties will begin next fall with the fall conference in October.

“I am very proud of these studentsas they have competed against at least nine 7A schools in our district! Crossing the stage with a fifth or fourth place is a great accomplishment and we had three first place winners! Congratulate these wonderful young people and their parents for a job well done," said Harry Almond, sponsor.

Twenty FBLA members and advisor Mr. Almond attended the FBLA fall conference at the U of A Fort Smith. Officers and many guests were introduced. President Jenna Brown presented Gravette’s $25 donation for the Make-A-Wish project.

Members attended informational and inspirational sessions and later heard keynote speaker Natalie White who was winner of the “Survivor: Samoa” program. She spoke on this year’s theme, “Breaking Barriers.”
