Gravette Community Garden obtains 501c3 tax exempt status and new board

— The Gravette (Community) Garden recently obtained 501c3 tax exempt status through the efforts of Marisol Jackson, said Steve Mitchael, president of the garden’s new governing board.

“This has been a passion she has had for more than two years,” he said.

One of the responsibilities with the new status is formation of the board which recently organized. Other officers are Jim Singleton, vice president; Jay Oliphant, treasurer; Marisol Jackson, interim secretary; and members Jennifer Cobb, Kathy Barrett and Christine McKnight.

At a recent meeting, the board began planning for the upcoming planting season. Several projects slated for the year include adding picnic tables, a wash station, tool shed and grape arbor, Mitchael said.

The board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Arvest Bank Community Room and guests are welcome, Mitchael added.

Tax-exempt gifts can be made to the Gravette Garden by contacting one of the above board members or at Arvest Bank.
