Wednesday, March 9, 2011

— Members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute visited Gentry on Feb. 24, visited the Eagle Watch Nature area and toured parts of the city.

The day began with a short lecture by Terry Stanfill of AEP Southwestern Electric Power Company at the new Gentry Public Library, followed by a tour of the Eagle Watch Nature Area, built on SWEPCO property through the efforts of Stanfill, local 4-H clubs and others.

The students went to Gentry’s well-known Wooden Spoon Restaurant for lunch and then returned to the library where Susan Young highlighted the town’s history.

Bev Saunders, executive director of the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, joined the group at the library and took them on a walking tour of Main Street and historic Main Street businesses and buildings.
