Police work two injury accidents

— Two serious motor vehicle accidents were worked by the Gentry Police Department last week.

Shortly before midnight on March 2, police were dispatched to Marion Lee Road, near the railroad crossing for a one-vehicle roll-over accident.

According to police reports, Anthony L. Hurt, 53, of Keysville, Va., was westbound on Marion Lee Road in a 2004 Chevy Avalanche at a high rate of speed when his truck failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled.

Hurt, according to police reports, was trapped inside his truck and was extricated by the Gentry Fire Department. He was transported to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital by Siloam Springs Ambulance with significant injuries.

The odor of alcohol was present, according to police reports, and blood was drawn for submission to the Arkansas Crime Lab for analysis.

Hurt, according to police reports, was cited for careless and prohibited driving, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and not having proof of insurance.

Second accident

A second accident occurred about 7 p.m. on March 3, on Arkansas Highway 12 near the intersection of Pioneer Lane.

According to police reports, Nick Weeks, 19, of Gentry, was southbound on Highway 12, just past Pioneer Lane, in a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck. His pickup entered the northbound lane which was occupied by an approaching vehicle. When Weeks swerved back into his lane, his truck left the roadway, struck a fence, allegedly accelerated across a field and then struck a tree, according to police.

Weeks and his passenger, Cheyenne McFerron, 19, also of Gentry, were transported by Siloam Springs Ambulance to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital, where both were treated and later released.

The accident remains under investigation, and charges may yet be filed, according to Gentry Police Chief Keith Smith.
