— Four Decatur High School track team members - Brittany Booth, Logan Jamison, Evan Owens and Trey Kell - are headed to the state track meet.

The team members placed first or second in their events at the district track meet in Eureka Springs last Wednesday to qualify them to competein the state meet, according to coach Stan Ellis. The wins also automatically qualified the students for all-conference honors, he said.

Evan Owens placed first place in the pole vaulting and second place in hurdles. Logan Jamison and Brittany Booth both placed first in the discus and Trey Kell placed first in the one mile run, Ellis reported.

Overall, both Decatur’s girls and boys teams placed fourth out of nine in the district meet. Although the teams are small, with seven members on the boys team and three on the girls team, Ellis said he was very pleased with their performance.

“Overall this year was good. These guys worked hard,” he said of the teams.

The state track meet will be held on May 5 in Fort Smith.
