GRAVETTE — Several homes on Sunset Drive in Gravette were evacuated Saturday afternoon when a broken gas meter starting spewing natural gas.

Gravette Fire Department issued the evacuation order for less than a dozen homes on thedead-end street that connects with Arkansas Highway 72 West.

Arkansas Western Gas personnel repaired the below-ground-level leak which was apparently caused by the meter being struck by a vehicle or object.

The gas did not ignite and no injuries or property damage resulted.
