Local post office to participate in national 'Stamp Out Hunger' Day

— Saturday, May 14, has been designated “Stamp Out Hunger” Day by the National Association of Letter Carriers who, on that day, will collect food for local food banks and food pantries.

According to Gerald Garner, Postmaster at Gravette, this will be the first year Gravette Post Office has participated in the event which has been an annual event for several years.

Suggested nonperishable items to donate include: Canned soup, meats and fish; cannedvegetables, fruits and juices; boxed goods such as cereals; and packages of pasta and rice.

All food collected by rural carriers or which is donated in a bin in the post office lobby at Gravette will be donated to the “Feed My Sheep” food pantry.

Persons are asked toleave bags of nonperishable food items by their mail boxes on Saturday, May 14, for pickup by rural carriers. A collection bin will also be available in the post office lobby for town residents to support the project.

Other area post offices will be participating, as well.
