Three Decatur students place in state track meet in Fort Smith

— Sophomore Evan Owens tied for third place in the pole vault event at the 2A State Track Meet in Fort Smith on Thursday.

Owens, who also scored tenth in the hurdles event, was one of three Decatur students to place at the meet. Freshman Trey Kell placed ninth in the mile run and senior Brittany Booth placed 10th in the discus event.

Students from all the 2A conferences in the state were represented at the meet, according to coach Stan Ellis.

Owens and Kell both did very well for being underclassmen and still have a few years to develop theirskills, Ellis commented. This will be Booth’s last year to compete and Ellissaid he was pleased with her performance.

“It was the close out of apretty good year. They’re all good kids and they worked hard,” Ellis said.
