— The Bulldogs lost 8-0 to Arkansas Baptist at the state tournament in Jonesboro on Friday.

Coach James Garner and athletic director Bobby King were able to negotiate an earlier game time with tournament officials so seniors didn’t have to make a choice of whether to play in the game or walk in the graduation ceremony that evening. However the tight schedule, overnight travel and stress of the uncertainty took a toll on the team.

Despite the loss, Garner said the team members had a good experience and learned a lot.

“I was so excited they got to go,” he said.

This will mark the fifth year Decatur has had a soccer team and qualifying for the state tournament is quite an accomplishment.

The team has won five of its nine games this season. Two more games were canceled on more than one occasion because of the weather and were never made up.
