— Twenty-one students from the class of 2011 graduated from Decatur High School during the commencement ceremony held in the Lloyd Peterson Gymnasium on Friday evening.

The graduation ceremony was the end of a busy week for seniors and their families.

More than $12,000 in local scholarship money was given to graduating seniors during an awards ceremony on Tuesday night.

The First Baptist Church of Decatur hosted a Baccalaureate program and dinner for the students and their parents on Wednesday.

During Friday’s ceremony superintendent Larry Ben gave the students a short address reminding them they can do anything in life.

It was followed by speeches by class valedictorian Ashley Lor and salutatorian Casey Yang. The Decatur High School band provided music for the program, which included a traditional slide show and rose ceremony for parents.

The evening ended with principal Bobby King’s presentation of the class of 2011 and students throwing their caps in the air to celebrate.
