— Gravette area residents contributed more than 25 pounds of “unwanted drugs” as the Gravette Police Department participated in the state and national project to collect unwanted prescription medication.

The collection was held for four hours last Saturday.

This was the second such drug collection the aim of which is to make sure such unwanted and outdated drugs do not fall into the wrong hands.

“When people properly dispose of the medications they no longer need, they protect our environment, our children and their own families,” said state drug director Fran Flener.

Statewide more than 3.5 tons of medications were turned in to law enforcement agencies, said Steve Varady from the office of the drug director, who expressed thanks to the Gravette Department for their participation.
