Services planned for Memorial Day

— Gravette’s traditional Memorial Day Service will be held Monday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, according to J.R. Gibbs, Adjutant of Gravette’s American Legion Post.

Jim Hendren, veteran F-16 Air Force pilot, will be keynote speaker, Gibbs said.

The Gravette High School band, under direction of Mike Johnson, will provide patriotic music, and members of Girl Scout Troop 5427 will serve as Color Guard during the program.

In case of rain, the program will be moved to the Gravette Civic Center, Gibbs said.

Gibbs said that Legion Post Commander Bill Howard, who has been instrumental in past years in helping prepare for the Memorial Day observance, has been unable to participate.

The Avenue of Flags in the cemetery will be raised Saturday, May 28, at 8 a.m. The flags will fly continuously until being lowered at 5 p.m. on Monday.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the raising and lowering of the flags and will be appreciated.
