Young wins Arkansas Skills USA architectural drafting contest

— Michael Young, a junior at Gravette High School, won the Arkansas Architectural Drafting Contest at the Arkansas SkillsUSA Championship held April 20 in Hot Springs.

Competing against drafting students from throughout the state Michael designed a USA drug store complete with a floor plan, roof plan, elevations and sectional drawings using a CAD program.

The competition was held on-site and Michael completed his winning design in about four hours.

He is the son of Anita and Chad Young of Sulphur Springs.

According to drafting teacher Ron Turvey, Michael, by virtue of winning the state contest, could receive as much as a $20,000award depending on his grades and ACT test score. He will represent Arkansas at SkillsUSA national competition in Kansas City on June 20.
