Jolly Good Times Club meets, shares in Thanksgiving dinner

The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club was held Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center with three members and two guests present.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and vice-president Susan Holland read the devotion, “We Thank Thee” by James Keller, and a Thanksgiving prayer written by Pauline Phillips, the mother of the “Dear Abby” writer. The members sang “Over the River and Through the Woods.”

Mary Griffin answered roll call with a humorous story about a first camping trip. Susan read Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Thanksgiving proclamation and two poems, “Going to Grandma’s” and “A ThanksgivingNap.” Betty read a saying from her desk calendar, “Appreciation is like salt. A little goes a long way to bring out the best in us.”

Secretary Betty Howard read the minutes of the August meeting and treasurer Mary Griffin gave a financial report.

The group voted to contribute $150 to Care and Share to help buy supplies for holiday food baskets.

Club members enjoyed the Center’s Thanksgiving dinner. After the meal, Betty spoke about her recent trip to Australia and New Zealand. She shared several postcards, pictures and brochures depicting beautiful scenery, views of the rainforest, the Maori tribe in New Zealand, koalas, kangaroos, kiwi birds and tiny penguins.

The next meeting willbe held Thursday, Dec. 15. Mary will have the program.
