— The Lady Pioneers got off to a slow start against the Lady Elks in Nov. 15 play at Elkins but outscored their opponents 27-7 in the fourth quarter to capture the victory, 52-38.

Elkins jumped ahead by six in the opening quarter, 21-15, and held that leadall the way up to the final quarter, when the Gentry girls exploded against them.

The second quarter was pointless, literally, and the third was split evenly at 10 points each.

Destiny Thomas picked up a whopping 24 points in the game, with Tara Arnold and Kaylin Cripps each adding another 10. Thomas shot at 50 percentbehind the 3-point line.

Shelby Hammond led the Lady Pioneers in rebounds with 10 during the game. Cripps had seven.

Elkins 53, Gentry 19

In boys’ action, the Pioneers were overwhelmed by the Elks in the nonleague game last Tuesday, losing by a score of 53-19. No game stats were available at press time.
