Events planned in October at two elementary schools and middle school.

— Three of Gravette’s schools are making plans for special activities during the month of October, according to calendars of the respective schools: Glenn Duffy Elementary, Gravette Upper Elementary and Gravette Middle School.

Three special events are scheduled at the Glenn Duffy Elementary School. The week of Oct. 10-14 is being observed as Fire Prevention Week. The Gravette Fire Department and EMT personnel will be visiting the schoolwith programs and information for all students. This will include the “smoke house,” a demonstration “house” which shows children first-hand about fire safety and how to react if a fire occurs in the home.

Oct. 17-21 is Bus Safety Week. Richard Carver, district transportation director, and members of his staff will bring buses to school and instruct children on bus safety procedures, stressing the importance of sitting in their seats and not causing distractions.

Red Ribbon Week will be observed at Glenn Duffy Elementary the week of Oct. 24-28. This is a week in which the dangers of drugs and the importance of saying “no to drugs” are stressed. Red will be the dominant color the entire week.

Upper Elementary

At Gravette Upper ElementarySchool the main extra event during October will be Grandparents’ Breakfast Day at the school cafeteria.

It will be held Friday, Oct. 21, at 7:15 a.m., when all grandparents are invited to “come and eat with their grandchildren.” The cost of the meal will be $1.50.

Middle School

Gravette Middle School will host a special potluck meal for parents of children in English as a Second Language.

Organized by Meghan Reimer, ESL teacher, the event will be at the middle school cafeteria, Monday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. The potluck meal is for parents who are invited to attend. “You will be able to meet new friends and will be able to better learn about the school and the opportunities it offers your children,” the sponsors said.
