The item in last week’s paper about the schools petitioning to consolidate with the Decatur school reminded me of the school year I spent in the Word District. I don’t remember the exact year but it was before I started school so it would have been between 1934 and 1940. My mother, Ena Hulett, was the teacher that year. If I remember right the house we lived in was owned by Dea Wilmoth. Either Valentines Day or Easter my brother was allowed to miss school that morning and walk me to school at noon to attend the party.
