Gentry Fall Festival Activities

The main events of the Chamber-sponsored Fall Festival will begin in the park at 12 noon, Sunday, Oct. 9. Activities include: Christian music by Tiffany Donohew Fisher at 12 p.m.; Talent competition on the stage at 12:30 p.m.; Mutton Bustin’ on the ball diamond in the park at 2 p.m.; Flint Hill Ramblers bluegrass music at 2:30 p.m. on the stage; Dale Johnston gospel music at 4 p.m. on the stage; Food, games, rides, tractor and hay-rack rides, craft booths, pumpkin painting, petting zoo and more all afternoon in the Gentry City Park. Cruise Night/Car Show

In connection to the annual “Show Your Ride” car show, sponsored by the Gentry Fire Department at the Gentry Fall Festival, a cruise night is being planned for 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Everyone is welcome to come out and cruise Gentry’s Main Street. Those who wish to have their cars and trucks judged on cruise night must enter and pay a $5 entry fee. The car show itself will be held in the park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. For more information on the car show or cruise night, contact Jeff Trammell at 957-3415.

4-H Barbecued Dinners

Outdoor Adventures 4-H Club will be selling barbecued dinners on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., in front of the First Baptist Church Youth Building in Gentry in conjunction with the Gentry Fire Department Cruise Night. Cost of the dinners is $5 and will include a sandwich, bag of chips, pickle, dessert and bottle of water. Proceeds will go towards the club’s upcoming educational trip to Kansas City and community service projects for 2012. Tickets can be pre-purchased from any Outdoor Adventures 4-H member or bought on site while enjoying the Gentry Cruise. Dinners will be in styrofoam containers to take home for those who wish to enjoy the Razorback game.

Barbecue Weekend

The Gentry Senior Activity Center is having a weekend of barbecuing starting on Friday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and continuing on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., in conjunction with the quilt fair and cruise night. GSAC will be serving hamburgers or hotdogs with chips and a drink out under the new awning along Main Street for the organization’s first “lunch outside.” Meals will be available for a suggested donation of $5 for either meal. Benefit Yard, Bake Sale

A benefit yard sale/bake sale will be held Fridayand Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8, at Special Edition Video in Gravette for Regina Holliday and her children. Regina was injured in a fall at Gravette Upper Elementary and has had her knee cap rebuilt. She has another knee surgery coming up in November. Sale donations are welcome. Quilt Class Outing

Members of Lou Romine’s quilt/craft class will meet at the Gravette Church of Christ at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7. From there they will car pool to Gentry for lunch at La Huerta Mexican restaurant and a visit to the quilt show at the Gentry Public Library. Anyone wishing to join the group for the outing is asked to be at the church promptly at 11 a.m.

EH Club Yard Sale

The Maysville EH Club will sponsor a community yard sale starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, in the community center gymnasium. Anyone wishing to have a booth and sell items may do so for $10. The club will serve sandwiches, desserts and drinks. To reserve a booth, call 291-4520.

GHS Fields of Faith Event

Gravette High School students will join youth on athletic fields all across America on Wednesday, Oct. 12, to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the sixth annual national Fields of Faith event. This outreach event, held at more than 475 locations throughout the nation, is structured as a student-to-student ministry movement. Peers invite their classmates and teammates to meet on the school’s athletic field to hear fellow students share their testimonies, sing songs and fellowship together. This second Fields of Faith event for Gravette schools is open to all Gravette School District students and surrounding youth groups and begins at 6 p.m. at McAbee Field.Free hotdogs and refreshments will be provided. Gravette Cleanup Day

Gravette will hold its annual fall cleanup day on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The city’s trash hauler will be picking up large items (such as furniture) placed curbside by early morning. No paints, batteries, toxic materials, lumber, or appliances with refrigerants are permitted. Items containing freon can be disposed of through Benton County Solid Waste, 795-0751.

Gravette Holiness Revival

The Gravette Church of God (Holiness) will be in revival Oct. 11-16. The speaker will be Chad Snider. Chad is currently the pastor at the Bible Holiness Church in Altamont, Kan., and youth president of the Ochelata Youth Camp. His wife is a teacher at the Independence Bible School in Independence, Kan. The public is invited to attend the services each night at 7:30, and at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday. Annual Quilt Show

Girl Scout Hat Drive

Girl Scout Troop 5497 in Gravette is knitting hats and collecting new hats for Hats Off For Cancer and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. If any knitters or crocheters would like to make a hat to send to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, please give them to Nancy Jones, Meredith Bramel or First Christian Church by Oct. 10.

GED Classes Resume

GED classes have resumed at the Gravette Public Library, 407 Charlotte Street SE. Classes are held from 5 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday. Class members must be at least 18 years old and seeking a GED. No pre-registration is required.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Computers Needed

The Gentry Lions Club is accepting used computers and laptops to refurbish and give to students who cannot afford one. Machines - up to about 10 years old - are being accepted. Hard drives are reformatted and a lighter Linux OS is installed to replace the existing OSand software. For more information, call Randy Moll at 233-0081.

Decatur Food Bank

Living Water Ministries in Decatur opens its food bank each Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1148 Highway 102 West in Decatur. Anyone who needs assistance is welcome. Area Men’s Breakfast

The Decatur United Methodist Church has a men’s breakfast the second Saturday of each month, beginning at 8 a.m., at the Gallery Cafe in Decatur. All area men are invited to join the group for good food and Christian fellowship.

Emergency Help

Families in Gravette School District wishing to apply for emergency help with food or utilities may make application from 9 to 11 a.m., Tuesday through Friday, at the Main Street Care and Share store in Gravette.

Mt. Zion Singing

Regular singing will be held at Mt. Zion Church at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Saturday of each month.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road. Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur United Methodist Church offers a food pantry program and a commodity food program for residents in Decatur on the first and third Thursday of every month, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly Men's Fellowship Gathering on the third Saturday of each month at 8 a.m. All men are encouraged to come for the food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings

Decatur VFW Post 9834 meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gentry Senior Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Gravette Senior Center

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, at 1870 Limekiln Road, is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Many activities are scheduled and lunch is served every weekday. For information on hot homedelivered meals for Gravette, Decatur and Sulphur Springs, frozen home-delivered meals for Maysville home-bound seniors or other services the center offers, call Mary Kay Kelley, director, at 787-5950.

Healthy Living Series

Dr. John Clark, an orthopedic surgeon and public health educator, will present a series of lectures in Decatur entitled: "Healthy by Choice, Not by Chance." Topics include: Wednesday, Oct. 5 - Glorifying God in Your Body; Thursday, Oct. 6 - Cancer - What's Eating You?; and Sunday, Oct. 9, Ideal Weight - Achieve it Naturally.
