Decatur school offers free tutoring services

— Northside Elementary School in Decatur is offering free tutoring services to qualified students, according to principal Leslie Sharp.

The school is offering the Supplemental Education Services because it was placed on School Improvement Year 3 under the No Child Left Behind Act for failing to meet literacy standards in several sub-populations.

Parents can choose from 12 approved tutoring service providers. The tutoring will be done outsideof school hours - on weekends, afternoons or during the summer - at a time that is convenient for parents, and parents will be responsible for transportation, Sharp said.

Costs for the tutoring services will be paid by the school. Regulations from the No Child Left Behind Act mandate that 20 percent of Title I federal funds be allocated for the Supplemental Educational Services when a school is in School Improvement Year 3 and beyond, according to Sharp.

For more information, call the school at 752-3981.
