Kiwanis Club installs new slate of officers

— New officers for the Gravette Kiwanis Club were installed at a meeting Monday evening, Sept. 26, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center.

Kiwanis Lt. Gov. Dan Yates of Gravette installed Andrea Kelly as president of Gravette’s club for the coming year.

Other officers installed include Jay Oliphant, vice president; Dan Yates, secretary; and Malcom Winters, treasurer. Board members are Bob Kelley, Rickie Stark, Zane Vanderpool, Jim Singleton and Bryan Johnson.

Outgoing president Bryan Johnson was presented a personalized gavel and pin for his service during the past year.

Following a meal prepared by Mary Kay Kelley and staff at the Senior Center, the Kiwanians enjoyed a time of recreation and fellowship.

Gravette’s Kiwanis Club was organized in 1975 with Allen Robinette serving as the club’s first president.

A global organization, Kiwanis is dedicated to “changing the world one child at a time and one community at a time.”Service to others is the primary objective of the club.

The Gravette club contributes financially to many projects each year, including the following: Awards a scholarship to a Gravette High School senior, administers the Al Kuettner and Corey Mosher scholarships, supports three local 4-H clubs, plus purchasing an animal at the Benton County Fair.

The club also supports the Gravette Senior Activity Center, the Boys and Girls Club, the school bands and the public library. They raised $5,000 for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital last year.

Members hold a semiannual highway cleanup,clean the park after the Gravette Day celebration and work at the school football concession stand for the Booster Club.

The Gravette club also sponsors clubs at each Gravette school: Terrific Kids at Glenn Duffy Elementary, K Kids at Gravette Upper Elementary, the Builder’s Club at Gravette Middle School and the Key Club at Gravette High School.

The club meets each Friday at the Ozarks Community Hospital. Special programs and speakers are scheduled almost every meeting. Persons interested are invited to attend a meeting or contact any member for information.
