Bean supper and silent auction planned for fight against hunger

— The Feed My Sheep Food Pantry in Gravette is giving an opportunity to area residents to take action to fight hunger.

First Christian Church in Gravette will sponsor a bean supper and silent auction to benefit the community food pantry on Sunday, Oct. 23. Beans, cornbread, dessert and drink will be served from noon until 1:30 p.m. and the public is invited. Participants can dine in or carry out. The suggested donation is $5 per meal.

Other fundraising efforts include the sale of tickets for a chance to win a queen-sized quilt made and donated by Betty Howard. Costs are $1 per ticket or six for $5. The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the bean supper and entrants need not be present to win. Tickets can be purchased at local businesses in Gravette.

According to mission director Ann Honderich, “With the high unemployment rate and the rise in grocery costs, the need forfood distribution services to those facing or experiencing hunger is increasing. Also, with the holidays approaching, we will be in need of funds to purchase additional food items. As in the past, we appreciate all of the community groups who have held food drives for us and hope that they have the opportunity to help us this season.”

Feed My Sheep Pantry is located at 303 3rd Avenue S.W. in Gravette, next door to Can-Do Hardware. For additional information, call 381-1547, 787-0718 or 212-1237.
