Joseph ‘Joe’ Bowen

Joseph “Joe” Sherman Bowen, of Neosho, Mo., formerly of Springdale, died Oct. 24, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers.

He was the oldest of five children born to Noah Sherman and Laveda Hasleteen Bowen.

He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Ginger Gail; and one sister, Eileen Grigg.

He is survived by his wife Maribel of the home; four children, Penny Ann Wright of Van Buren, Cherry Jo Long and husband Jerry of Greenwood, Yancey Cole Bowen and wife Ginger of Fayetteville, and Star Butler and husband Eddie of Decatur; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Craig of Las Vegas, Nev., and Linda Parsons of Gentry; and one brother, Dennis Bowen of Kansas, Okla.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Oct. 27, at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale, with Bill Williams officiating.

Daniel Canoe

Daniel George Canoe, 76, of Colcord, Okla., died Oct. 19, 2011, at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

He was born March 26, 1935, in Claremore, Okla., to Benjamin and Lizzie (Bark) Canoe. He was a graduate of Chillocco Indian School. He was retired from the United States Navy, serving his country nearly 20 years. He married Eura (Potter) on May 18, 2007. He lived in the Kansas and Colcord area most of his life.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Ellen Alice Canoe; sisters, Ophelia Hammons, Marion Keener; brothers, Roger Canoe, Charles Canoe, John Canoe; grandson, Tony Bennett; and great-grandson, Elijah Daniel Bennett.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Russell Charles Canoe and wife Kathy Jo; daughter, Patricia Ellen Canoe and companion Olivar Caravantes, of Bentonville; two brothers, Joseph Canoe of Dry Prong, La., Richard Canoe of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Evelyn Roberson and Velma Canoe, both of Tahlequah, Okla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Joyce Leatherman and husband Keith of Colcord, Kathy Canoe of Twin Oaks, Okla., Marilyn Bennett of Colcord, Janice Evans and husband Jerry of Twin Oaks, Chester Swake, Jr., and wife Donnice of Kansas; 20 step-grandchildren; and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 22 in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel, with Larry Ellis and Richard Canoe officiating. Interment was at the Jordan Cemetery between Kenwood and Salina, Okla.

Judith Corder

Judith Margaret Corder, 65, of Gentry, died Oct. 18, 2011 at the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale.

Corder was born Feb. 16, 1946, in Sacramento, Calif., to Charles and Bernadine Taylor. She married Donald Edwin Corder in Aurora, Ill., in 1963. She was the office manager of Corder Granite and Marble. She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include: sons, Jim Corder and wife Kary of Gentry, Tim Corder and wife Alice of Siloam Springs, Larry Corder and wife Tina of Crescent City, Calif.; Gary Corder and wife Cyndi of Gravette; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Taylor and wife Sherry of El Dorado Hill, Calif.; and sister, Sharon Martin of Sacramento, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A graveside service was held Oct. 20 at the Gentry City Cemetery in Gentry, with Tim Sallee officiating.

Thomas Kean

Thomas Owen Kean, 57, of Gravette, died Oct. 15, 2011, at his home.

He was born Sept. 4, 1954, to Owen and Mary Kean.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Michael Kean; a sister, Donna Joy Kean; and a son, Shawn Kean.

He is survived by his wife, Toni Kean; and two daughters, Taylor Kean, and Randi Saunders and husband Casey.

Graveside services were Oct. 20 at Bella Vista Memorial Gardens.

George McDonald

George Grant McDonald, 83, of Decatur, died Oct. 14, 2011, in Siloam Springs.

He was born June 26, 1928, in Snohomish, Wash., to Carl M. and Bertie E. Roberts McDonald. He served in the Navy during World War II as an aircraft maintenance technician, worked for 3M Corporation and was a member of the Living Waters Ministries in Decatur.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Ann; three sons, Michael G. McDonald, Nickie L. Smith and wife Cheryl, all of Decatur, and Byron K. Smith of Exeter, Mo.; two daughters, Glenda McCully of Southwest City, Mo., and Dolly Pool and husband Ron of Decatur; two sisters; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were Oct. 19 at the Living Waters Ministries.

Eda Lou Montag

Eda Lou Montag, 70, of Gravette, died Oct. 20, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers.

She was born July 28, 1941, in Tulsa, Okla., to Kelly Elbert and RevaWoods. She worked for Tyson Foods at the Berry Street plant. She was a member of the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harlan Montag of the home; three sons, Harold Montag of Tulsa, Andrew Montag of Gravette and Thomas Montag of Tulsa; one brother, David Wood of Oklahoma; one sister, Kelly Ann Parker of Pittsburg, Kan.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Bettie J. Rankin

Bettie J. Rankin, 65, of Siloam Springs, died Oct. 21, 2011, at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab.

She was born Sept. 11, 1946, in Siloam Springs, and raised by her grandmother, Josephine Van Fleet. She was a homemaker and won many awards at fairs for her canning and jellies.

Survivors include a son, Randall Bryson and wife Jeanie of Decatur; a daughter, Beverly Harris and husband Dale of Decatur; three stepdaughters, Rhonda Calkins of Bella Vista and Tonja Tagg and Taria Hannold, both of Gentry; two stepsons, James Rankin of Washington and Tommy Rankin of Gentry; a brother, Don Van Fleet of Gentry; a half brother; five half sisters, including Donna Helmick of Rogers and Mary Hudson of Siloam Springs; five grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 24 at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. Burial was at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur.
