Mitchell honored for 30 years of service at GSD

— A reception honoring Mitchell Wilber for his 30 years of service to the Gravette Schools was held recently at the Middle School Cafeteria.

The event recognized Wilber, who served as a teacher, coach, assistant high school principal and middle school principal. The last position he held for 20 years until his retirement at the end of the last school year.

More than 60 teachers and school staff members with whom Wilber has worked were present at the event which was postponed at the time he retired last May. Among those attending were several members of the Gravette School board.

Wilber was presented a large plaque recognizing his 30 years of service which included the words: “You have certainly stepped up to the plate and hit a home run with your professional attitude and commitment to our students, parents and staff.”

He also received acouple of gag gifts from fellow school personnel and all present enjoyed cake and punch with Wilber and his family.

A native of Maysville/ Gravette, Mitchell graduated from Gravette High School and returned to his alma mater in the mentioned positions, several of which were in the coaching field.

Wilber, who has taken a new position with the Decatur school system, told the group he enjoyed working with all of them and added, “You’re the best group I’ve ever worked with.”
