Fall festival set

— With cooler weather finally here and fall just a week away, Gentry’s Annual United Way Fall Festival is just around the corner and plans for the annual event are unfolding.

The annual Chamber of Commerce Quilt Show will open in the McKee Community Room of the Gentry Public Library on Oct. 7, with viewing each day from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Oct. 14. The deadline for entries in this year’s show, sponsored by McKee Foods, is Sept. 29.Entry forms are available at Gentry City Hall, Gentry Chamber of Commerce and at Parks Lumber. In connection to the annual “Show Your Ride” car show, sponsored by the Gentry Fire Department, a cruise night is being planned for 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Everyone is welcome to come out and cruise Gentry’s Main Street. Those who wish tohave their cars and trucks judged on cruise night must enter and pay a $5 entry fee. The car show itself will be held in the park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. For more information on the car show or cruise night, contact Jeff Trammell at 957-3415.

The main events of the Chamber-sponsored Fall Festival will begin in the park at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9. Activities include the following:

◊Christian music by Tiffany Donohew Fisher at 12 noon;

◊Talent competition on the stage at 12:30 p.m.;

◊Mutton Bustin’ on the ball diamond in the park at 2 p.m.;

◊Flint Hill Ramblers bluegrass music at 2:30 p.m. on the stage;

◊Dale Johnston gospel music at 4 p.m. on thestage;

◊Food, games, rides, tractor and hay-rack rides, craft booths, pumpkin painting, petting zoo and more all afternoon in the Gentry City Park.
