Gillespie becomes Eagle Scout

— Jacob David Gillespie, 18, of Gravette, attained the rank of Eagle Scout Aug. 27.

He is the son of David and Julia Gillespie and the late Lora Gillespie.

Jake is a member of Troop 122 of Rogers, chartered by the First United Methodist Church of Rogers.

He has been actively involved in scouting since becoming a Cub Scout Tiger at the age of 6. He received the Order of the Arrow as a Webelos Cub Scout. He attended summer scout camps in Arizona, California, Arkansas and Missouri, where he earned numerous merit badges and awards.

His fellow scouts elected Jake their crew leader for their Philmont ScoutRanch backpacking trip the summer of 2010. As a scout he held leadership positions, including Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Troop Guide.

For his Eagle Project,Jake worked with the Sunshine School of Bentonville to construct a recycling center for paper, plastics and aluminum. He graduated from Gravette High School with high honors and received an academic scholarship to Arkansas Tech University.
