Pee Wee Basketball

Gravette Pee Wee Basketball sign-ups for grades 4, 5 and 6 will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Junior High School Gym. The cost will be $35 per player. For more information, contact Bruce Bayley at 787-8650.

Barbecue Weekend

The Gentry Senior Activity Center is having a weekend of Barbecuing starting on Friday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and continuing on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., in conjunction with the quilt fair and cruise night. GSAC will be serving hamburgers or hotdogs with chips and a drink out under the new awning along Main Street for the organization’s first “lunch outside.” Meals will be available for a suggested donation of $5 for either meal. Bethel Cemetery Work Day

Work day at Bethel Cemetery, south of Gravette, will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please bring saws and tools to help clean up the cemetery for the winter. If it rains, the event will be postponed one week.

White Mouse Puppet Show

First Christian Church in Gravette will host the “White Mouse Puppet Show” Sunday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. The performance will be held at the Gravette Church of Christ. It will feature Kody the Bear puppet with music and black light puppets. Bring the whole family. Admission is free. A love offering will be accepted as a fundraiser for the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry in Gravette.

Youth Group Yard Sale

The youth group at Gravette Assembly of God Church will hold a yard sale Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1, beginning at 8 a.m. The sale will be held at the church, 1108 Main Street NW. All proceeds will be used to fund youth group activities.

Life Chain in Gravette

Anyone interested in taking a public stand concerning the right-to-life issue is encouraged to participate in National Life Chain 2011 on Sunday, Oct. 2. Life Chain is an hour and a half of intercession on local sidewalks. As in other years, Life Chain will be held on the sidewalks in front of Gravette Holiness Bible School between the hours of 2 and 3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to gather at 1:45 p.m. for prayer and to sign in. Quilt Class Outing

Members of Lou Romine’s quilt/craft class will meet at the Gravette Church of Christ at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7. From there they will car pool to Gentry for lunch at LaHuerta Mexican restaurant and a visit to the quilt show at the Gentry Public Library. Anyone wishing to join the group for the outing is asked to be at the church promptly at 11 a.m.

EH Club Yard Sale

The Maysville EH Club will sponsor a community yard sale starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, in the community center gymnasium. Anyone wishing to have a booth and sell items may do so for $10. The club will serve sandwiches, desserts and drinks. To reserve a booth, call 291-4520.

Annual Quilt Show

The Gentry Chamber of Commerce will hold its fifth annual quilt show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 7-14, at the McKee Community Room in the Gentry Public Library. The deadline to enter quilts is Sept. 29. Entry applications may be picked up at Parks Lumber, Gentry City Hall or the Gentry Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. Girl Scout Hat Drive

Girl Scout Troop 5497 in Gravette is knitting hats and collecting new hats for Hats Off For Cancer and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. If any knitters or crocheters would like to make a hat to send to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, please give them to Nancy Jones, Meredith Bramel or First Christian Church by Oct. 10.

Gravette UMC Children’s Activities

Gravette United Methodist Church invites all children in grades K-5 to special activities each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the church educational building. The evening will start with food, such as pizza or sandwiches, followed by fun activities and Bible stories. All children in the area are invited. For information, call the church, 787-5000.

Gentry Fall Festival Activities

The main events of the Chamber-sponsored Fall Festival will begin in the park at 12 noon, Sunday, Oct. 9. Activities include: Christian music by Tiffany Donohew Fisher at 12 p.m.; Talent competition on the stage at 12:30 p.m.; Mutton Bustin’ on the ball diamond in the park at 2 p.m.; Flint Hill Ramblers bluegrass music at 2:30 p.m. on the stage; Dale Johnston gospel music at 4 p.m. on the stage; Food, games, rides, tractor and hay-rack rides, craft booths, pumpkin painting, petting zoo and more allafternoon in the Gentry City Park. Moms in Touch

The Gentry Moms In Touch International community prayer group meets at 8 a.m. Wednesdays at the Gentry Christian Church, located at Third and Giles. This group prays for the children and the schools they attend. All women are invited to attend. For more information, contact Dani Cypert, 736-1213.

Household Hazardous Waste

In conjunction with the Benton County Cleanup, Benton County residents may take household hazardous waste items to the Siloam Springs transfer station, 1108 E. Ashley, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. Identification with proof of residency will be required. Acceptable items include household quantities of paints, pesticides, herbicides, chemicals, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, automotive waxes, cleaners, oils and antifreeze. Kingdom Kids Resume

Kingdom Kids started back up on Wednesday, Sept. 7. All children in grades K-5 are welcome to attend. Meeting time is from 6:30 to 7:45 at Heritage Baptist Church, 307 Fourth Ave., S.W., in Gravette. The Kingdom Kids program has a time for music, Bible, memorization, games and snacks.

Cruise Night/Car Show

In connection to the annual “Show Your Ride” car show, sponsored by the Gentry Fire Department at the Gentry Fall Festival, a cruise night is being planned for 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Everyone is welcome to come out and cruise Gentry’s Main Street. Those who wish to have their cars and trucks judged on cruise night must enter and pay a $5 entry fee. Gravette Library 'Stuff-A-Sack Sale'

Gravette Public Library is having a September $1 “Stuff-A-Sack Sale.” Fill a regular-size plastic shopping bag with items from the book sale (including hardback and paperback books, videos, music and audio books) and pay only $1 per bag. The Library will provide bags or patrons may bring their own. There is no limit and the sale runs through Sept. 30.

GED Classes Resume

GED classes have resumed at the Gravette Public Library, 407 Charlotte Street SE. Classes are held from 5 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday. Class members must be at least 18 years old and seeking a GED. No pre-registration is required.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Computers Needed

The Gentry Lions Club is accepting used computers and laptops to refurbish and give to students who cannot afford one. Machines - up to about 10 years old - are being accepted. Hard drives are reformatted and a lighter Linux OS is installed to replace the existing OS and software. For more information, call Randy Moll at 233-0081.

Decatur Food Bank

Living Water Ministries in Decatur opens its food bank each Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1148 Highway 102 West in Decatur. Anyone who needs assistance is welcome. Area Men’s Breakfast

The Decatur United Methodist Church has a men’s breakfast the second Saturday of each month, beginning at 8 a.m., at the Gallery Cafe in Decatur. All area men are invited to join the group for good food and Christian fellowship.

Emergency Help

Families in Gravette School District wishing to apply for emergency help with food or utilities may make application from 9 to 11 a.m., Tuesday through Friday, at the Main Street Care and Share store in Gravette.

Mt. Zion Singing

Regular singing will be held at Mt. Zion Church at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Saturday of each month.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur United Methodist Church offers a food pantry program and a commodity food program for residents in Decatur on the first and third Thursday of every month, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly Men's Fellowship Gathering on the third Saturday of each month at 8 a.m. All men are encouraged to come for the food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings

Decatur VFW Post 9834 meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gentry Senior Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Gravette Senior Center

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, at 1870 Limekiln Road, is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Many activities are scheduled and lunch is served every weekday. For information on hot homedelivered meals for Gravette, Decatur and Sulphur Springs, frozen home-delivered meals for Maysville home-bound seniors or other services the center offers, call Mary Kay Kelley, director, at 787-5950.

Healthy Living Series

Dr. John Clark, an orthopedic surgeon and public health educator, will present a series of lectures in Decatur entitled: "Healthy by Choice, Not by Chance." Topics include: Monday, Oct. 3 - Diabetes - The Butter With the Sweet; Tuesday, Oct. 4 - Hypertension - Taking the Pressure Off; Wednesday, Oct. 5 - Glorifying God in Your Body; Thursday, Oct. 6 - Cancer - What's Eating You?; and Sunday, Oct. 9, Ideal Weight - Achieve it Naturally.
