— The undefeated junior high Bulldogs picked up another win, 29-8, against the Hackett Hornets at an away game on Thursday night.

The victory leaves Decatur’s junior high team with a 4-0 record.

“We played pretty well. They scored on the first possession. After that we came right back and scored and just kept on going,” said head coach Shane Holland.

Ninth grader Victor Urquidi threw a touchdown pass to his twin brother Mario Urquidi with only 40 seconds left in the first half. Victor Urquidi ran the ball very well throughout the game and threw the ball better than he has in the past, Holland said.

The offensive line also deserves plenty of credit for blocking, enabling Victor Urquidi to make the gains that he did, Holland said. Defensively, the team played a very good game after the first push, he added.

The team will face Johnson County Westside at home on Sept. 29, Western Yell County on Oct. 13 at home, Danville away on Oct. 20 and Union Christian at home on Oct. 27.

Senior High

The Senior High Bulldogs lost 48-14 to the Hackett Hornets during a 1-2A conference game at Bulldog Stadium Friday night.

The Bulldogs celebrated senior night on Friday and eight senior football players, cheerleaders and band members were honored, along with their parents, during a special pre-game program.

Friday’s victory brought the Hornets to 2-2 in season play and 1-2 in conference play. Decatur, meanwhile, dropped to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference.

“It was a tough game from front to back. Their linemen were very quick ... they just had a lot of team speed,” said Decatur head coach Shane Holland.

The Bulldogs scored two touchdowns, the first was a 2-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, thrown by junior quarterback Evan Owens to senior Tito Mendoza. Owens scored a second time in thefourth quarter on a 15-yard run and Andrew Harris caught the two-point conversion.

Junior running back/defensive back Nou Thor, who was named player of the week, made eight receptions for a total of 74 yards, as well as five tackles.

The Bulldogs will face Johnson County Westside in Coal Hill Friday night. Westside has a record of 1-3 in season play and 1-2 in conference play. They lost 39-16 to Mountainburg Friday. Mountainburg beat Decatur 48-12 two-weeks ago.
