Schools report to public

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

— An annual report to the public was included in the Sept. 19 meeting of the Gentry School Board.

The meeting included reports from each of the campus principals on school progress and goals for the education of Gentry’s students.

A common thread in the reports was meeting state standards and achieving the yearly progress required to comply with the No Child LeftBehind Act. The act currently requires continual improvement in schools so that all students are proficient in core subjects by 2014.

Meeting the yearly progress goals is expected to become more and more difficult for schools as required percentages of students scoring proficient or above rises nearer to 100 percent.

In addition to emphasis on core subjects - math, science, reading and writing - goals were also set to help students reduce their body mass index.
