Gravette culinary team to represent Arkansas in National competition

— The Gravette High School Culinary Arts team was awarded first place in the ProStart Restaurant Management competition held at Crowne Plaza in Little Rock March 8-9.

They will represent Arkansas at the annual ProStart National Invitational in Baltimore, Md., April 26-29.

Courtney Beggs, Rebekah Rambadt and Jacob Scott, along with their GHS instructor Seanne Sain, will travel to Baltimore April 26, where they will represent the state in the annual event.

The team “wowed the judges from universities around the state in the Restaurant Concept event: Andouille’s, a fine dining, French-Creole demonstration,” Sain said.

Second place in the Restaurant Concept went to North Pulaski High Schoolfrom Jacksonville and third was won by a team from Northwest Arkansas Community College Regional Technology Center in Rogers.

Along with the trip to national competition, they each received a combined $20,000 in scholarshipsfrom The Art Institute, Sullivan University and Johnson & Wales, Sain said.

Other teams participating at the state event were the Arkansas Tech Career Center, Conway Area Career Center, Flippin High School and Springdale High School.

The winners were announced at an award luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion by Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe.

The Gravette team also competed in a culinary management concept event which was won by the team from NWACC.
