Pioneers shut out Huntsville and Berryville

Shiloh Christian visits and shuts out Pioneers

— The Gentry Pioneers shut out Huntsville on April 3, 10-0, but were then shut out themselves when they faced Shiloh Christian on Thursday, 17-0. But on Monday, the Pioneers again played a shutout game, beating Berryville.

With four runs in the second and another five in the third, Gentry took a commanding lead early in the home game against Huntsville. The Pioneers added another in the sixth to complete the shutout.

Nelson Watson threw 70 pitches in the game and picked up his sixth win for the season. Watson,6-2, allowed six hits in the game and sent six down swinging at the plate.

Gentry had 11 hits in the game, including doubles by Josh Sewell and Tristan Glass. Watson, Tanner Coy, Austin Cochran and Dusty Haag had RBIs.

When Shiloh Christian visited Gentry on Thursday, the tables were turned.

The Saints jumped ahead, 1-0, in the first inning, but then blew the game wide open in the fourth, when 14 runners crossed the plate. Shiloh added two more runs in the fifth, to seal the mercy-rule victory and end the game.

Gentry recorded no hits in the game, and eight Gentry batters went down swinging.

Josh Sewell started on the mound for Gentry and was credited with the loss.Tanner Coy and Dusty Haag also took their turns on the mound.

The Pioneers (9-8) defeated Berryville on Monday in another shutout game, 8-0.

Chris Wiand started off on the mound and took the win. Tanner Coy threw another 24 pitches in the game. Wiand struck out four batters and Coy, three.

Gentry put a run on the board in the first, three in the third, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and a final run in the seventh. The Pioneers had 11 hits and 3 RBIs in the game, with Coy picking up three of those hits and two of the RBIs. Chris Wiand also batted one in.

The Pioneers are scheduled to travel to Prairie Grove on Thursday.
