HOMETOWN EVENTS: GSAC Fundraiser

— Gentry Senior Activity Center will hold a chili, potato soup, and beans with cornbread dinner on April 20 to raise funds for the center and its meals program. The center continues its raffle of a 37-inch Visio TV donated by Walmart, which will be given away on April 30. For more information, call the center at 736-0378.

Decatur Elementary Parents Night

The Decatur Northside Elementary School is holding a parent’s night from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., April 24. Ra Suh, of Ozarks Guidance, will present parents with strategies to handle children’s behavior problems, such as temper tantrums, sibling rivalry and others.

Arkansas Night

The Decatur Northside Elementary School will be hosting Arkansas Night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., May 1. Parents and community members are invited to come learn about Arkansas culture, history and business with educational booths, student decorations and traditional Arkansas foods.

Earth Day at Eagle Watch

Earth Day will be observed at the Eagle Watch Nature Area on Saturday, April 21. Some trees will be planted at 9:30 a.m. A program will be presented at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public.

Grief Recovery Seminar

Free support for those who have suffered a recent loss is available through a three-week seminar, May 5, 12 and 19, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., at the Community Room in the Gentry Public Library, 101 East Main Street, Gentry. For information or to register, call 220-9242.

Area Quilt Class

The monthly quilt class will meet at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Gravette Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St. S.W. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and there will be a “show and tell” time. Anyone interested is invited to attend. Please bring completed quilts or projects in progress and a snack to share.

Jolly Good Times Club

The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club will be held Wednesday, April 25, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Center. Members will gather at 10:15 in the sitting room. Betty Howard will give the program preceding the potluck meal. Susan will bring a meat dish, Mary, a vegetable and salad and Betty, dessert. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

Bloomfield 4-H Tomato Sale

Got Spring fever? The Bloomfield 4-H club is selling tomato plants as a spring fundraiser. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 28, in the old Marvin’s Grocery Store parking lot in Gentry. There will be five varieties of tomatoes available for $2 a four pack.

Community Literacy Program

The Decatur and Gravette Community Literacy Program is in need of volunteer tutors. Volunteers work two to three hours a week, and the program provides all training and materials. There is no need for tutors to speak any language other than English. For more information, call 787-8200.

Kindergarten Registration

Glenn Duffy Elementary School in Gravette will hold kindergarten registration Monday through Friday, April 23-27. Pre-K applications will also be available. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Thursday and Friday; and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Parents with questions are encouraged to call the school at 787-4120.

Immunizations/Physicals

OCH Gravette Clinic is scheduling appointments for pre-K and kindergarten children to get immunizations and/or physicals. Decatur Spring Cleanup

Decatur residents can set out bulky waste for pickup along with their regular trash on April 19. Large or bulky household items such as Christmas trees, furniture and toys will be accepted. Items such as tires, paint, chemicals, computers and yard waste will not be picked up.

Maysville Cemetery Cleanup

Cleanup will be held at Maysville Cemetery, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 21. All workers will be appreciated.

Daniels Cemetery Cleanup

Cleanup at Daniels Cemetery on North Mount Pleasant Road will be held Saturday, April 21, beginning at 1 p.m. All help will be appreciated on cleanup day. Please bring weed trimmers, rakes and bags for the leaves.

Sharp Eagle Scout Ceremony

Russell Sharp’s Eagle Scout ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Arvest Bank in Gravette, located at 506 First Ave., SW. Sharp started Cub Scouts more than 10 years ago and completed the final Eagle Scout project and achieved his Eagle Scout award shortly after his sixteenth birthday. Gravette Spring Cleanup

The city of Gravette will hold its annual spring cleanup day on Tuesday, May 1, only. Residential trash customers will be able to put out extra large items - primarily old furniture - for curbside pickup. The following items will not be accepted: liquids, hazardous waste, dirt, chemical products, oil filters, propane tanks, motor oils, oils, antifreeze, paints, batteries, tires, appliances with compressed air, fluorescent tubes, barrels, animals and toxic materials.

My Collection Exhibit

On May 5 the Gravette Historical Museum will host a special exhibit, entitled “My Collection,” that will provide an opportunity to view the many private collections in the community. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Admission to the museum is free. The Bank of Gravett will be hosting a benefit luncheon on the museum grounds. A barbeque sandwich, chips and a drink may be purchased for $5, beginning at 11 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the museum. Exhibits will include buttons, cookbooks, old tools, Barbie dolls and cars. Tired Iron of the Ozarks

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse located at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry. The club’s 20th Annual Spring Show is set for April 20-22.

Christian Coffee House

Rebecca’s Beat in Gentry (on Rebecca Street, just off Gentry Blvd.) will again open at 7 p.m. on Saturday night for live music and discussion of various topics related to life and Christianity. All are welcome to come for coffee,fellowship, guidance and information.

Library Gala Planned

Friends of the Gentry Library will hold a gala event to benefit the Gentry Public Library. "Fiesta" will be the theme of the gala slated for April 21 at the Gentry High School/Middle School Cafeteria, beginning at 6 p.m. As in years past, the gala will include auctions, both silent and live, excellent food and entertainment. The proceeds from the "Fiesta" gala will enable the Gentry Public Library to continue to meet the technology needs of the patrons in Gentry. Contact the library at 736-2054 for more information.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Convenience Center

Benton County Planning & Environmental and Benton County Solid Waste District provide a free service to the public for disposal of large bulky household items, appliances, electronics and metal. Hours of operation are every Saturday (except on holiday weekends) 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Convenience Center is located at the Benton County Solid Waste District, 5702 Brookside Rd., Bentonville. Items and electronics accepted are furniture, mattresses, box springs, plastic toys, playground equipment, computers, printers, radios, telephones, televisions, VCRs, DVDs, appliances, microwaves, refrigerators, hot water heaters, air conditioners, grills, bicycles, swing sets, dishwashers, freezers, dehumidifiers and scrap metal. The 2012 Benton County Rabies Clinic Week will be held April 21 to 28. Local veterinarians will offer the rabies vaccinations at reduced prices. A local schedule of locations follows:

Area Men’s Breakfast

The Decatur United Methodist Church has a men’s breakfast the second Saturday of each month, beginning at 8 a.m., at the Gallery Cafe in Decatur. All area men are invited to join the group for good food and Christian fellowship.

Emergency Help

Families in Gravette School District wishing to apply for emergency help with food or utilities may make application from 9 to 11 a.m., Tuesday through Friday, at the Main Street Care and Share in Gravette.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur United Methodist Church offers a food pantry program and a commodity food program for residents in Decatur from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly Men's Fellowship Gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturdayof each month. All men are encouraged to come for the food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings

Decatur VFW Post 9834 meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

GHS Lion Boosters to Hold First Junior High Athletic Mixer

Members of the GHS Lion Booster Club are inviting all 7th, 8th and 9th grade athletes and their families to the first annual Junior High Athletic Booster Mixer. The event will take place at 2 p.m., April 22, at the GHS Commons. Refreshments will be served by the GHS Culinary Arts Class. The regular monthly meeting of the GHS Lion Booster Club will take place during the mixer. Acknowledgment of the Gravette junior high athletes' accomplishments during the past year, announcement of upcoming GHS Lion Booster Club activities, and opportunities for GHS Lion Booster Club membership will be communicated during the formal meeting portion of the mixer. Drawings will be held at the conclusion of the meeting for several pieces of Lion apparel. "This will be a perfect time for junior high athletes and their families tolearn about all the activities sponsored by the GHS Lion Boosters and to have the opportunity to get involved," reports GHS Lion Booster Club President Jheri Roberts.
