Watson accepted into Razorback marching band

— Lensey Watson will be playing the piccolo for the University of Arkansas Razorback Marchingband next fall and will receive a $500 band scholarship.

Watson is a senior at Decatur High School and has been a band member since she was in sixth grade. She auditioned for the Razorback Marching Band on March 14 withdirector Christopher Knighten, and received word she was accepted into the band the same day.

“I was nervous at first but then everything went really well,” Watson said.

Watson plays the flute in the Decatur band and was selected to play in the National FFA Band last year. She has also placed first in several solo and ensemble contests.

“Its very exciting, Lensey is the firstDecatur band student to go on to play college band and get a scholarship,” said Decatur band director Kristin Wages. “We’re breaking new ground, it’s pretty monumental.”

Watson said she will be going to a special band camp this summer and will be playing at home Razorback football games, as well as the Little Rock, Texas A & M and bowl games.
