Arkansas Night set May 1

— The Decatur Northside Elementary School will celebrate “all things Arkansas” at Arkansas Night on May 1.

The event will allow children and their families to learn about Arkansas history, culture, business and industries, natural resources, nature and wildlife and more, according to organizer Leslie Thompson.

Guests can tour booths and hallways decorated by children, dig for diamonds, learn about Arkansas parks or Native Americans, or sit for a while and listen to music and folk tales. Entertainment will include reader theater by a group of third and fourth gradestudents, folk tales and music, including performances by the kindergarten class and by several band members.

Students will be learning about and celebrating Arkansas all week long with special dress-up days, including Razorback Day, Hillbilly Day, Camouflage Day and Diamond “Bling” Day.

This will be the second Arkansas Night for Decatur Schools. The event is alternated every other year with International Night, where students learn about cultures around the world.

Arkansas Night will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., May 1, in the Decatur Northside Elementary School. For more information, call the school office at 752-3981.
