Flint Creek Power Plant honored for safety record

— Employees at the Flint Creek Power Plant were treated to steak dinner Thursday, along with a safety award for achieving 2 million work hours without a lost-time accident between October of 1996 and July 2012.

The award was presented to plant manage rCarl Handley by Arkansas Department of Labor director James Salkeld.

The Arkansas Department of Labor, the Arkansas Insurance Department and the Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission give the award to Arkansas companies which excel in onthe-job safety. The Flint Creek Power Plant was only the 131st work place in the state of Arkansas to ever receive the award, according to Salkeld.

Also presented to the power plant were letters of congratulations from U.S. Senators John Boozman and Mark Pryor.

The plant is co-owned by AEP Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) and Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp. (AECC) and operated by SWEPCO. The plant has 69 employees.
