— The Gravette City Council learned Thursday evening that two property owners northwest of the Hiwasse community have petitioned to be annexed into the city of Gravette.

Cindy Hingle, who, with her husband Joe, attended the regular council meeting, said annexation papers for their property and that of Donald Puryear were filed July 6 at the Benton County Clerk’s office.

The request will be heard by County Judge Bob Clinard at 2 p.m. Friday, August 6.

If approved, the properties will join those which were annexed into Gravette earlier this year.

A petition by several propertyowners, filed earlier by Larry Holloway on their behalf, was rejected by the judge at a hearing June 26 as reported in the Eagle Observer.

Holloway has since filed individually for annexation of his property, located east of Hiwasse, to become a part of Gravette.

Other business conducted during the hour-long meeting included a discussion to consider bringing the original Gravette water wells and treatment plant back online. The council approved a cost-analysis study of the possibility. A cap of $23,000 was set for cost of the study.

The council agreed the engineering firm Morrison Shipley will complete engineering on a project to extend sewer serviceeast along Highway 72 to Stagecoach Road. Seeking financing information for this project and a companion extension of water service to the same area is being considered.

The council rejected placement of a double-wide mobile home on a lot on Loyle Lane west of Hiwasse in what the council determined is a subdivision.

The council discussed the purchase of property adjacent Pop Allum Park, at 701 Dallas SW. The council rejected the $15,000 asking price but decided to offer $12,000.

Voting for the measure were council members Margo Thomas, Tina Crose, John Rambadt, Melissa Smith and Larry Stidham. Council member Jim Denver opposed the purchase offer.
