Reading program expands outlook

Children gained new experiences and new knowledge through public library summer reading program

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

— Children attending the final week of the summer reading program at the Gentry Public Library had their faces painted by makeup artist Donna Holloway while others made masks during the craft sessions last week.

Within a few minutes children were transformed into cartoon characters and other figures by Holloway of Make-n-Faces in Fayetteville.

The special session marked the close of this year’s summer reading program at the Gentry Public Library; but a special blow-out party is planned from 6 to 9 p.m., this Saturday, Aug. 4, at the McKee swimming pool in Gentry.

Children who participated in the summer program are invited to attend. Hot dogs, chips, dessert and a drink will be served at the special event.

Other special sessions of the summer reading program included a magic show, a visit by Firefox and dispatchers from Benton County Central Communications, Lynn Sciumbato of Morning Star Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and numerous presentations and projects which kept the children focused and learning and experiencing new things.

Terri Guntharp coordinated the special summer activities at the library.
